Sale of cockles of the Ría de Arousa

The cockle, or Cerastoderma Edule, is a small mollusc, nearly circular, which lives on the muddy bottoms or with thiny sands near the coasts, at approsimately 10 m. depth. Its habitat can have extreme conditions because the cockle withsatnds them well.

It is a species that grow quickly, feeding with small seaweeds and microorganisms found around the sand.

Galicia is the first producer of cockle

It is harvested with harrow on boat or on foot when it is picked up from the vivarium at the beaches. The cockle is a very delicate bivalve as for the cares once harvested and this makes necessary all the cautions while manipulating it.
